Or maybe he goes to Princeton?
I don’t think Princeton allows athletic transfers. It may be an Ivy rule.
I doubt Stanford’s admin would think two years of scholarship money for one year of playing would be a good ROI.
If a player plans on leaving a school by entering the portal, they are not supposed to reach out to any coach or admissions office, prior to entering the portal correct?
Then once they enter, a coach can make them an offer to come play for them, and they would then send transcripts to admissions at that school, in the hopes they can get accepted?
As long as you are in the portal, you are still enrolled at your current school, where you just played, or do you automatically get ‘unenrolled’?
I do not think you are unenrolled until you complete the transfer. Lots of kids enter the portal and then remain at the same school since no one reached out… One would think that would look bad to your current coach and could knock you down the depth chart.
“Once you initiate the process, your current scholarship should remain intact for the current term, but future scholarships are not guaranteed. If you decide to stay after initiating the transfer, your scholarship could be at risk, as your current school may rescind future scholarship offers or allocate them to other student-athletes”
And as a player, you are ‘supposed to’ enter the portal, prior to having any contact with any coach of another school correct?
So basically, you enter and hope for the best?
Why so many UCSB transfers? Seems like a gluttony coming from that school
how can we see everyone in the portal?
yes you are not supposed to talk to other coaches until you have entered the portal. Yes hope for the best.
Only coaches and admins have direct access.
You can talk to players, administrators, school administration, and others, just not coaches directly. I would be shocked to hear that discussions are not happening indirectly pre-portal.
Yes water polo is a very small sport, everyone knows someone who knows someone who knows every coach. As easy as Everest shaking hands with Gaby Acosta after a game and saying, “you should come to Cal”.
I’m not sure how accurate this account is or where they get their info:
Pretty much.
That’s why women’s volleyball has evolved to the point where some college coaches make a business out of utilizing the portal when it comes to high profile players. From what I’ve seen by bigger volleyball followers, there’s now a practice by college coaches where they will ask club coaches how so and so is doing and if they like where they’re at.
Then come portal time, a club coach can tell that player so and so was asking about you or a college coach can keep an eye out if they’re in and be able to reach out.
I mentioned this separately, but it’s a common practice in other sports.
It’s very possible that we could be seeing this be more apparent in the near future
looks pretty accurate.
now it’s 5 or more from UCSB men in the portal
Is that to hit the 24 roster limit?
Two were starters - one with 92 points.
I thought coaches and admins have access to portal, how do you know who is on and off the portal list?
