Does anyone have a schedule for the Holiday Cup next weekend?

Bill Barnett?

Yes, thanks @trojanlee!

Anyone have SB TOC schedule yet?

I don’t think they will finalize SB TOC schedule until after the Bill Barnett Cup, because of the seedings that will most likely change

I saw a couple games this morning at the Holiday Cup. No real surprises. Although I would have thought Oaks would have bested Alta Loma by more than 10-5…missing player(s)?

Marlborough only had two subs against Newport so that was tough. The Foothill game was 0-0 after the first quarter so it was probably closer than 7-2.

If MaxPreps has reported the score correctly, MD beat OLu 10-9. OLu was up 5-2 after the first quarter.

Yes, that is correct. MD was up 2 goals (8-6) in the 4th and gave up 3 goals only to come back and win 10-9.

Yes, MD came back to win it. Great win for that program.

Group A was ROUGH!
Will get well over half the odd placements

I agree. The A bracket was significantly more difficult than the B. IMHO, OLu and MD are the best two teams and will eventually be playing either other in the CIF-SS Championship game.

MD 15 Newport 9 in the Championship game

MD 15, Newport 9 in the 1st place game
OLu 12, Oaks Christian 9 in the 3rd place game
San Marcos 12, Long Beach Wilson 9 in the 5th place game
Foothill 7, CdM 6 in the 7th place game

The seedings for the Bill Barnett were a head scratcher for me and definitely favored Newport (host team). I’m not sure how MD got seeded so low, but the A group was stacked for sure.

I’m not sure it’s fair to base the seedings for TOC next week on the results of Bill Barnett. We usually have the benefit of a week of games in between to balance things a bit.

That said, what stood out was the depth that MD and Newport have. These are the only two teams that can swap 6 in/6 out and that shows up in a two day tournament. Although MD has the better depth, Newport manages their rotations best.

The rest of the top 8 can give anyone a run in a single matchup if their starters stay out of foul trouble. That’s how much parity there is this season.

Couldn’t agree more.

I’m going to have to disagree on the seeding for the Holiday Cup. Oaks had beaten Newport so they obviously needed to be seeded ahead of them…should Mater Dei been ahead of Oaks? Probably.

TOC seeding could have OLu ahead of Newport, but hopefully they will play head to head this weekend and we’ll know for sure. However, this weekends results may not be definitive given that there may be some key girls missing with the World Cup qualifier tournament in Greece this month.

I agree that on any given Sunday it’s anyone’s game amongst the top 8.

On the weekend the referees were inconsistent, but that’s just water polo. In the championship game Newport’s starting center defender was rolled at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. Some teams actively work the refs which creates a equal response. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game between Newport, Foothill, Mater Dei or Long beach where all the coaches don’t get yellow cards.
