Didn’t see a topic in the Girls’ thread yet but saw this this morning:

Again, it’s still extremely early in the season but could be a good starting point for discussions.

Definitely WAY too early…however…a stab at top 10 rankings with minimal information
Feels like there is a lot of parity out there which should make for a fun season!!
The issue here is that these W/L records appear to be coming from MaxPreps which is not updated and missing games for virtually every team. For example, it say’s Valhalla is 2-0 but they have played like 7 games.
That is because this is CIF SS only, they played 2 games against CIFSS teams.
Oaks Christian has already beaten Newport Harbor this year and handled Bishops relatively easily in a scrimmage.
Here’s my take on a Top 10:
Not sure I’d rank teams based on a pre-season scrimmage
Bishops is not part of CIF SS. Unless something changed this year?
My bad - see, WAY too early!
Definitely seeing coaches getting to know their lineups with freshman onboarding. Also, SAT testing impacted player availability resulting in less than full squads. I’m not sure I would take those pre-season victories to the bank just yet for any group of kiddos.
Yes, they are, however this computer generated rankings does not omit teams that are out of the Southern Section. If they play against a SS team they end up in the rankings BUT only the games against SS opponents are used. In the top 80 there are 15 teams from outside the SS because at least15 teams have played outside LA section and San Diego section against SS teams. Again it will only show the games that they play against the SS. To determine your teams SS rankings you would need to manually or mentally delete those teams.
Don’t sleep on Beckman this season. Even before the patriot girls are coming in. They lost to OLu 16-7, Foothill 15-8, JSerra 6-5, but have beaten all lower division (1/2) schools by a lot. Then yesterday beat Los Alamitos 8-7 in the final of the Holiday in the Hills tournament.
Agreed,
You have to give Beckman credit here. For the past few years they’ve been closing the gap with the traditional southern section powers.
Any idea what percentage of Patriot players feed into Beckman?
Before or after MD and OLu make their pitches??
Fair,
Of the current varsity roster how many came through the Beckman pipeline?
As far as I know all are patriot girls. I believe some started at 14u and some in high school. None of them have played as long as their current 14u group.
I think it’s fair to say that all Beckman players are from the Patriots, but not all Patriot players will be able to play at Beckman. I don’t think they’re big enough (like Newport) to turn away players that aren’t zoned to attend the feeder HS
Here are all the girls scores and records for the top teams in the southern region heading into Christmas. I apologize in advance if these are not accurate and if I’m omitting a team.

My rankings of the southern region heading into Christmas:
Honorable Mention:
It would be great if Jeff could have a go at a top 10 list for this year’s grils HS season.
Looks fair. However, San Marcos beat LB Wilson and Bishop’s beat San Marcos in the same tournament
San Marcos missing their 2 senior national team members at that tournament — will be missing them in January as well due to the World Cup Qualifying tournament.
