Why has this thread been dormant for three weeks? Is nothing happening?

I think everyone is waiting until official signing day to avoid disappointment over the House rules and not getting the school the want??

Yeah I think this time of year is the slow season for commits at least for boys. There should be a pulse in November and then a pause until they start coming in after the first of the year. The last couple weeks of official visits this week and next.

Class of 2025 has plenty of talented athletes (see North and South Tournament) but news already surfaced that some athletes’ offers got rescinded. This class will need to be patient until transfer portal is closed and then we will see commitments coming in.

Does anyone know when the portal opens and closes?

The ruling comes down in April so that is too late to apply to most schools. This is going to be an interesting year and unfortunate for all coaches, current players as well as high school kids looking for a spot. As John Abdou said, “cast a wide net”.

Soren Jessen and Samuel Bowman have been let go by UCLA.

Looks like portal is mainly in December after season ends. Last day appears to be Dec 20 or so.

Is that common to be dropped as an incoming freshman? Just trying to learn more about the recruiting process?

That is good. So we can expect to see more movement in Jan for sure.
So it looks like UCLA is gong to stick to 24 spots for next season as they only have 1 slot open if the do not drop any current players.

Dropped is probably not the right word. Uninvited or a canceled verbal agreement is a better way to put it. It is somewhat common. A coach tells a kid he wants him and then a 6’6 20 year old from Hungary shows up on the radar. “Sorry buddy, I no longer have a spot for you”. You might also see some redshirts and a couple freshmen cut from rosters after going to the school for one year. I know UCSB cut a few redshirts before this year started. Some of them entered the portal on their own, not sure if that affected the results. I hope coaches let those kids know before the portal closes, some see the writing on the wall.

Thanks for the insight. So a signed commitment letter carries no weight?

Most don’t sign commitment letters. A scholarship may come with a agreement but most are not getting scholarships, those go to the top 10 percent and foreigners.

Cancelling a verbal commit is common in polo? I don’t agree. This would cause pretty big issues in the reputation of the coach and recruiting process and may shy away others. This year is different largely due to the new playing rules.

Its all verbal until NLI. Of course you can post on Instagram but there is no legal weight on that.

As someone who has a HS junior this thread is very helpful. Is there a place to get more information on the process?

BTW- my heart to out to the boys and their families who find themselves in this position. Significant commitment to play at this level combined with the emotional roller coaster of college admissions creates a lot of stress for these young men. Maybe it’s better not to talk about individuals in such a public forum.
