Does anyone have a link for the schedule?
Thank you for posting!!
Seems like Day 3 is the water polo schedule equivalent of “lorem ipsum.” Lol…
Here is a link to the Google document for this weekend’s California State High School summer tournaments:
Seems like quite a few of the top teams are missing.
JSerra-Mission is playing Quicksilver
Newport-In their own tournament
OC- In Newport
HWL-In Newport
Mater Dei- In Newport
Where are
DLS and SHP from the north?
The boys play in several tournaments as they have the same season during highschool, so not sure the point of this one and it would conflict with a lot of club events. North South - Elite 8 - S&R
Sounds like they can put a little more effort to resolve date conflicts if they want this to be a more competitive and serious championship.
But its not highschool season, so perplexing. An off season champs?
That’s my point exactly, pretty poor effort on behalf of the organizers as I assume it is CIF that is in charge and sounds like this tournament should be sometime in late Oct or November
It’s a mess because of the girls seasons in NorCal and SoCal being at different times. Yes, the boys are at the same time, but you get into a Title IX violation if you have a boys championship without girls. The solution was to have it in the summer, but with more and more tournaments and confilicts, it’s hard to have full attendance.
This tournament has long been confusing for players/parents who haven’t followed it over the years. It’s never been a CIF sanctioned event, it is a USAWP club tournament where the organizers are doing their best to make it “like a state championship for HS polo”. They asked for clubs to arrive as their HS team for the upcoming season to give it that feeling.
It used to be 48 teams and all the best HS teams would play in it as a club, but as has happened to some of the larger fall tournaments, teams have realized they would typically get no quality games on day 1 of the tournament. Since then they have now created these 8 team tournaments to maximize the quality of games in a weekend.
Still a fun tournament but is now more of a mid level event.
It’s not a state tournament. Where is SHP, DLS, Newport, JSerra, Los Gatos, Miramonte, St Francis, OC, MD, Harvard-Westlake etc. It’s just a fun tournament with next year’s “teams rosters”.
When the club coach and the HS coach are not the same person, and both book tournaments for the same weekend and both expect their tournament to be prioritized, it makes for some creative scheduling and probably too many games in a day for one athlete…
But…
I never liked this tournament…. Playing a 3 day tournament with half your hs group the week before JOs isn’t conductive to good water polo for most teams. It won’t help prepare for HS season and it won’t prepare for JOs. Just not good planning.
