It is a very young roster and they will defintely gain some valuable experience. It is interesting to see Princeton’s Sekulic particiapting during her current NCAA season. I believe that she is the only current collegian listed.

The US will play Spain on the 14th, followed by Hungary and Greece. The Finals will be on the 19th. It will be interesting to see what sort of rosters the other countries are bringing.

Good luck ladies!

The US opens tomorrow vs. Spain. Roster approach looks similar to what we saw on the men’s side, except even more so. Nine of 15 players on the roster are under 20. There definitely seems to be a “reset for the future” strategy for both SNTs. USA Women’s National Team Announces Competition Roster For World Aquatics World Cup Division 1 Action - USA Water Polo

Did not see this or my post earlier today would have been a reply to it. See separate thread with header “Women’s World Cup Roster”. Mods, if there is a way to merge these two threads, that would be great, but I can’t figure how to do it.

And you can view all the rosters, including date of birth for the players, here, I only looked at a few other teams, but the US women are YOUNG. World Aquatics Searchable with selection buttons at the top by sport, country, gender. Also searchable by name if you want to look for a particular player.

More likely that they don’t want to take college girls out in the middle of their season. It’s a good opportunity to get a look at the youngers that might make 2032 or even 2028.

The US lost to Spain 16-11. I tried to watch the game, but could not get the stream to work.

Women lost to Hungary 12-7

Still not able to get stream to work? I am not, despite having paid for a pass. Pretty disappointed. Seemed to work fine for the first few rounds of the mens tournament, but nothing available from the Semi Final and Final Rounds for the men, or any games for the women.

It did not work for me yesterday. I am currently traveling, so I was not able to try this morning.

Worked for me this morning — new rules changes with the clock really force a fast paced game. Might take time for USA to play this quickly and build teams that emphasize this over size and shooting like the past. Favors the smaller speedy Euro teams.

I get not disrupting the NCAA season and instead bringing HS players. But NCAA is only preseason this week and most semester-based colleges are still on winter break. Seems US could’ve fielded a more competitive team with 2025 U20 and 2028 Olympic prospects. Incredible experience for the HSers though, hopefully they get a couple wins.

I go back far enough to remember when a bunch of us on WPP were complaining that the FINA rules then favored “hulking 6’6” Euro-thugs." LOL! That’s exaggerated for effect, but only a little. Back then we wanted a game where guys like Tony Acevedo and Manuel Estiarte could thrive again. Just for kicks and for the youngsters here, here are some Estiarte highlights. The women’s NCAA season starts this week and many teams have tournaments this weekend. It looks like Princeton’s Jovana Sekulic is the only college player playing in Greece

Absolutely, I love the emphasis on speed and athletic ability so it’s fun to see the game played like this!

:white_check_mark: saw the request to merge topics as this post gained more traction. We can only do this on the admin side; the threads have been merged.
Have fun everybody!

Thank you! (The rest of this gets me to the required 20 characters.)

Women lost to Greece 20-7. They will play Play Italy, Israel and Hungary the next three days.

I still think we are seeing a consistent strategy from both men’s and women’s SNT’s to use this tournament to try out some young prospects. I don’t know if that’s a good strategy or not–although both teams have a number of players approaching the age they move on. But so far I think only Obert on the men’s side and Gilchrest on the women’s have announced retirements. Looks like the women have already qualified for World Champs, but I don’t think that’s true for the men. Did not watch the game or try to, but US women lost 12-13 to Italy. Italy outscored US 6-0 in the fourth, which must have been pretty ugly.
