Sorry but I had to join this exchange just to ask why there are only 6 divisions for girls when there were 7 for boys? There are a lot of teams with records above .500 that got left out yet D5 is full of teams that are way below that. Out of 32 teams in D5 only 10 have a winning record.
I totally understand how teams make CIF. Automatic berths are awarded to top teams in leagues but come on…There are teams that qualified that only won 3 or 4 games. CIF should be embarrassed.
It looks like they expanded D2 from 8 to 16 brackets. That added 14 or so teams.
Valid complaint on the at-large teams not making a division. Perhaps they should have made the divisions larger where needed.
But the complaint on the number of divisions? I see 7 divisions D1-D6 with an Open division.
Boys had the same but the open division was 12 teams instead of 8 teams for the girls.
CIF doesn’t deserve any defending so please punch away at them but the number of divisions is the same.
That was not the original format. On Friday it was Open division and then D’s 1-5. It changed today to 1-6.
