Please note, most teams have only played four games, before you hyperventilate that Frontier is leading the section, remember, they are Division 3 playing lower level schools. As the season progresses, the Division 1 schools will move up and a semblance to the order (notwithstanding Sanger) will appear.
The Divisions are based upon CIF-CS Girls Water Polo Base Division which has not been updated since 08/22/2022 (hence Clovis East being listed as Division 2 and Sanger Division 1).
So far, there have been 114 games played since the start of the season by CIF -CS teams.
Clovis North played Carondelet and SRV (lost in OT) close at Acalanes Invitational. Looks like CIF-CS has at least 5 teams who could push to be Top 10 in NorCal.
SHP, Carondelet, Miramonte, Campolindo, Acalanes are probably top five in Norcal. Arroyo Grande must be close. I wonder how good is Soquel this year.
Clovis North will be stronger next year, but they are not that close to the elite Norcal teams right now, even though #12 and #7 (?) are very good players, obviously, and #14 will be another good player in the future. Davis played them without their (arguably) best player, a sophomore, and played mostly even, even though Davis is essentially a team of sophomores and inexperienced freshmen.
Arroyo Grande returns all of their starters from last years D1 Regional appearance. Would argue they are even better this year. Top 10 in Nor cal and the #1 seed for Central Section D1
They are the class of the section right now. Rating are subjective at this point as we don’t have comparisons of teams yet. After this weekend it will shake out with AGHS at the top
I have no idea what you mean by “I thought the Davis game score seemed weird. Davis usually has a closer score to the clovis schools.”
Davis lost to Clovis North 11-14, trailing most of the game by 1-2 goals. But whatever
P.S. I would say that Davis has soundly dominated Clovis schools in recent years, but this year it might be a tougher challenge. In 2017-2023, Davis was 18-2 against Clovis schools
Davis went 4-2 in 2023-24, 3-0 in 2022-23, 4-0 in 2021-22, 3-0 in 2019-20, and 4-0 in 2017-18 (no games against Clovis schools in 2018-19 and 2020-21).
One thing the Tournament Director did (I don’t know if he did it on purpose), but allowing the Clovis Schools to avoid each other is a bonus. I like this tournament. Every year it is well ran, granted a little late on games, but it is overall a great tournament.
It must be one of the biggest water polo tournaments in the country - I am sure it is a fun tournament. On a flip side, for Clovis East and Buchanan to drive 3+ hours for a two-day tournament with almost guaranteed meeting in the final …
If I recall correctly, last year GB played at the Shootout, but they are not at the tournament this year. I am nor sure that Lodi or say Oak Ridge will offer very strong matchups- I hope I am wrong.
