National League 2025

That particular slip was 100% a kick by the CC player; it was naked eye obvious to everyone (except, inexplicably, the ref.) But, yes, the balls were slipping a fair piece that weekend. (That said, I actually like the new Mikasa balls myself. But overinflate them and it’s a death sentence.)

I’m hearing that there will be 1 or 2 Youth (18U) Academy teams playing next Friday.

100%. Almost every player said the balls were overinflated, including the many international players who have played with the new balls overseas. Most players like the new balls when inflated correctly, but hated what was used this weekend. Easy mistake to fix going forward. Hope they do it.

For National League, I looked at the rosters but they don’t list the coaches - are the college coaches coaching the college teams?
Anteater = Klatt (women’s season)?
Trojan = Pintaric?
Sunset = Wright (probably not as women’s season)?
Long Beach = Gavin?

I don’t think they are allowed to be on the deck during the games yet. There is a date that they will be allowed but for now it was mostly senior players coaching.

The NCCA coaches are not allowed to coach. Technically, the teams playing are not USC, UCLA, etc they are club teams.

Coaches were in the stands for many of the games that I attended.

Mission is being coached by Brett Ormbsy. Trojan is being coached by Sasha Bucur. I think Brian Anderson was coaching LB.

From my conversations with the coaches, they all tried to find someone close to or with ties to the program to coach. It looked like several young coaches were getting opportunities at NL.

Mission/Trojan, Mission/Channel Cats and LAAC/Trojan were all great games. NYAC v USA pipeline was very competitive. The rest of the Woollett games weren’t as compelling.

Mission/trojan at LMU had a pretty solid turnout!

Nice. They were rewarded for the drive.

Anyone know how the attendance turnout was for NYAC - USA? I know that was the night cap game of the week.

I would also be curious to know what the turnout was compared to the first week.

It seems like the social media push was a lot less prevalent in week 2. Yes, the USAWP account was slightly more active, but the “unofficial” NL account seems to have been pulled back substantially.

Also, Channel cats posted something on their Instagram about their filming crew not being allowed on deck at their games this weekend.

It feels like USAWP didn’t like being shown up by the unofficial account and team accounts and instead of embracing it all did what is typical and shut out any non-USAWP media.

I was there, my son played for USA. Crowd was moderate, later in the eve. I think having the venues so far apart splits the potential crowd for a bigger game expereince.

Yeah it would be great if they could get both sides of at Woollett stager the start times people can go back and forth on the top. Week four is at LMU and Pepperdine, hope the PCH is open by then so fans can go back and fourth. Week three J-serra and Woollett that is like 20 min away.

Does anyone know if there is a Fischer Cup this year? I saw there is a championships for the National League in April but also heard there is a National Club Champs in May but cannot find anything on USA Water Polo calendar about it (I know, shocker).

From what we know now:
National League finals will be April 25-27 at Mt. Sac.
Sr Nationals (replaced fisher cup) is currently scheduled to be May 16-18 at ucsd.

Wow! That’s simply huge for the NL. What a get for LAAC too. Their games just became the closest thing water polo has to must see tv.

Hope he plays in week 3! Many would say the best “hesi” shot ever…

Again, there is something different about NL this year. This just proves that. I agree that this is huge for the NL and brings a lot of validity. Reminds me of the David Beckham signing that helped explode the MLS. Hoping Varga can have similar impact here. No reason there should not be a professional water polo league in the USA. Excited to see him play
