thanks for starting this thread!

Any thoughts on 18U NorCal girls teams so far? It looks to be really interesting on who the top teams will be from now and by end of July.

Haven’t seen the NorCal schedule, but here is the schedule for 16U and 18U girls for SoCal Futures League, which begins soon. Happy to see that there is an intention to stream these games, like they do for the boys.

NorCal Futures schedule here: 2025 Futures NorCal Girls Teams, Formats, Day Schedules and Results - Google Sheets

I think this will be a good year for the top NorCal 18u girls’ teams, with several in the running for a top 3 finish in the Futures League Super Finals and Junior Olympics.

With all due respect to the other clubs and athletes that deserve to be mentioned, here are my predictions for the top 6 clubs (not necessarily in this order):

Lamorinda. Lamorinda has the deepest team, led by goalie Sydney Kring (Campolindo, 2026), center Lily Palma (Las Lomas, 2026), Josie Haast (Carondelet, 2026), LH attacker Ali Sagara (Miramonte, 2025, UCLA), Ally Larsen (Miramonte, 2025, UCLA), Audrina Kang (Miramonte, 2025, Indiana), Nikki Frazier (Campolindo, 2025, Indiana), Sammi Frazier (Campolindo, 2025, Indiana), and Avery Sullivan (Campolindo, 2025, SDSU). If Palma continues to improve her finishing skills, she has a chance to make the senior national team.

Stanford. Stanford is led by, among others, Natalia Szczerba (Sacred Heart, 2025, Stanford), goalie Ellison Brush (Sacred Heart, 2026, USC), goalie Lexi Nelson (Menlo-Atherton, Cal, 2025), Megan Newby (Sacred Heart, 2025, Brown), Sofia Flierl (Menlo, 2025, Brown), and center defender Casey Coleman (Sacred Heart).

Bulldog. Many of the players on Bulldog have played together for years and it shows in the pool. Among others, the team is led by Reece Helsel (Clovis East, 2025, Cal), Addison Engelbert (Buchanan, 2025, U.C. Davis), Mel Rasner (Redwood High School in Visalia, 2025, LBSU), center/utility player Macie Drum (Buhach Canyon, 2025, Indiana), and Eloise Kytle (Edison High School in Fresno, 2026).

Arroyo Grande. Arroyo Grande is playing in the Futures League with next year’s high school team but played in the Cal Cup with their Class of 2025 players. Among others, Arroyo Grande’s Junior Olympic team will be led by center Berkley Sinner (Arroyo Grande, 2025, UCSD), Ané Smith (Arroyo Grande, 2025, SDSU), Tessa Pettit (Arroyo Grande, 2025, Villanova), Natalie Whitfield (Arroyo Grande, 2026), and goalie Bay Burnett (Arroyo Grande, 2026). Whitfield and Bay are two of the top recruits from the Class of 2026.

Diablo Alliance. It will be difficult to get a good read on Diablo until we see whether any players join the team in the summer. If Cal’s Rosalie Hassett and Leland High School’s Chrissy Flynn join the team, Diablo will be a tough team to beat. In the meantime, Ella Del Rosario (Acalanes, 2026) and Lily Holloway (Campolindo, 2027) are very good attackers.

680 Drivers. It’s too early to get a good read on 680 but it has been competitive in the games it has played against the other top teams. Goalie Shelby Killingsworth (San Ramon Valley, 2027) has “Big 4” potential.

this is awesome would love a take on 14U girls and 16u girls nor cal and so cal

For Socal 18U

I see Set, Legacy, Socal, 805 as the top 4.

All open clubs, so it’s hard to predict how they will rank until we see where everybody ends up this Summer.

Shores also has had a strong team over the last 3 JO’s in this group.

Which age group are you referring to?

sorry, yes, I was thinking of 18U

I’ll buy Regency and sell SD Shores if you’re talking 18U

Regency should definitely be in the mix and likely Newport as well. Both of these teams along with Legacy will be clones of their HS team.

Legacy could be the favorite if they can convince all of their HS players to return, with the option of adding two alum from college who are still eligible.

If 805 manages to join forces again with Oaks Christian players, they will be a force to be reckoned with. Although, I would think Kocur should have the momentum from CIF to jump start his girls club program and look at the long game.

SET and SOCAL are both wildcards, but have always managed to put together strong rosters that are well coached.

Just like we witnessed in the CIF-SS Open playoffs, the parity this year will make for a fun JO’s.

Ah, Yes you are right, I recall that in the past Regency’s seniors did not play over the summer, but this year it’s just a couple of key players.

Last year, Regency only fielded a 16U team because majority of their players were young enough to play at that age group and it gave them the best shot at walking away with a medal (which they did - Gold).

Half of the girls on that 16u squad have aged up, so they will likely put their varsity team on 18U (much like OLu did when the coaching was attached to North Irvine) and continue to have a 16U team that comprises of some of their younger developing players.

The vast majority of the Oaks Christian girls are playing with SB 805 again this summer.

Top 20 12u Girls Water Polo Teams
week #33

1 – Lamorinda – Crushing everyone they play in Futures. Two years ago, this team came within 1 point of winning the national championship in 10u girls.

2 – Patriot – Stumbled versus Back Bay at Turbo OC Cup, but otherwise has looked dominant this season. Notably they beat SB805 by 1 point in Cal Cup play 3 weeks ago.

3 – SB805 – This is the team who beat Lamorinda two years ago in the 10u championship game, and this year they only have a single loss in Cal Cup play.

4 – Los Alamitos – Played up in 14u gold at Turbo OC Cup and won silver. Los Al also has recent wins over San Clemente and Back Bay in Futures.

5 – San Clemente – Finished second at Turbo OC Cup and is tied for the points lead in Futures.

6 – Back Bay – Beat San Clemente at Turbo OC Cup then one week later lost to San Clemente at Futures.

7 – Commerce – Cal Cup monsters. They beat everyone they face by at least 5 points.

8 – Davis – Tied for second in Futures and had a nice 7-5 win over Stanford 3 three weeks ago.

9 – Stanford – Had a victory over Davis in Frozen Cup in January and grabbed a victory over 680 in Futures.

10 – Greenwich – Took Davis to a shootout before falling short 6.2-6.4 at Frozen Cup

11 – Del Mar – Futures week #3 resulted in a ‘rock-paper-scissors’ with Newport and SD Shores. Del Mar gets the nod for their 4th place at Turbo OC and 2nd at KAP7 International.

12 – SD Shores – Fell two points short in their battle versus local rival Del Mar, but ended with a two point victory over Newport in the aforementioned Futures week #3.

13 – Newport – Quietly having a solid season as they win most of their games in Cal Cup and sit near the points lead in Futures.

14 – 680 Drivers – Won bronze at KAP7 International in February.

15 – South Bay United – Tied for the points lead in Futures D2 and placed 5th at Turbo OC four weeks ago.

Marco,

Your 12U Girls ranking does not include Diablo, which makes zero sense and does not make it credible, sorry

As I already mentioned to you, Diablo does not play the A team in 12U Futures, and does not participate in 14U at all. They did not participate in the 12U and 14u Futures League in the previous several years, so this should not have been a surprise.

Diablo Red 12U (A team) won Frozen Cup in January, beating Stanford A 6:1, Davis 9:4 and SHAQ 15:2. In Cal Cup, they beat SJX 14:0, Santa Cruz 16:1, Stanford 4:3 and lost to Lamo 5:6.

You have ranked Lamo as #1, Davis as #8, Stanford as #9 and SJX as #18 but choose to not rank Diablo at all- strange

Yes wpolo93,

You did tell me that in DM. As I said in response, I did not disagree with anything you wrote and said you filled in some blanks that helped me understand some of the posted game results. I owned up to leaving Diablo off this initial list being a thing I may have got wrong.

At the time I received and responded to your DM, I was not in a place where I could put in the additional research to correctly place Diablo. An update will happen likely sooner than later, and the initial 14u rankings will also get posted.

However, if in the time between now and then you’ll like to tell the story of why the folks at Diablo don’t get along with the crew running Futures, but only disfavor them enough to send their ‘B’ team instead of a total boycott, that is a tale I’d love to hear.

Marco, I had no intention of making it public, but your DM answers were strange as well.

You wrote to me the following:

“They did win Frozen Cup, but I’m not convinced their competition in that tournament were the ‘A’ teams. Many of the bigger Bay Area clubs use participation in that tournament as a consolation for those not chosen to play in Orange County the following week. I don’t completely disregard Frozen Cup, but I do take the results with a grain of salt.”

Most 12U big teams on the girls side skipped K7 Intl altogether and did team training/scrimmages instead. Just check the list of the A teams that participated at K7 this year.

Then you wrote:

“It is the Futures performances I was looking at in deciding to leave Diablo off the list. If it is their ‘B’ team in Futures, that would explain why they are not having a strong showing, but it also leaves me without any way to see how strong their ‘A’ team is.”

And, again, you got it wrong since Diablo does play in Cal Cup with pretty good results, and, again, they won Frozen Cup against A teams from Stanford, Davis, and Greenwich.

Bottom line, if you do the rankings for girls, search for info.

P.S. Regarding your question. I do not know exactly why Diablo does not play in the Futures and age group Lamo teams do not go to the Frozen Cup. It could be politics, but, kids have way too many tournaments these days anyway, so basically I do not care what are the exact reasons.

You don’t play you don’t get ranked :man_shrugging:t3:
Let Diablo be a dark horse at JOs but playing your B team and loudly saying it’s your B team while your A team doesn’t have competition of name in the past 4 months how do you expect to get ranked?

The best part of this conversation is someone is ‘pissed’ about his daughter’s 12U Water Polo team is not being ranked, and the person who does the ranking as a starting point (on his own time), was DM’ed to explain the err’s of his way and why he should include his daughter’s 12U team. Then he doubled down, and posted for everyone to read, that he DM’ed the OP to explain his failure to include his daughter’s team.

“Mannnn…We talkin’ bout 12U…not a game…12U”

This right here is why I read these boards
