Five years of eligibility?

Edited - I just scanned the article and read it wrong.

I thought that they were talking about strictly enforcing the 5 year to play 4 rule.

This is a terrible idea

While they are at it, they should think about adding a max age that a player can be, and still play a college sport.
If somebody plays a couple years abroad and then comes and has 5 years of eligibility, but along the way, takes a year off, for international competition, they could be 26 yrs old, and playing againts 18 year olds. That’s NOT what college sports was meant to be.
They have this situation with Canadian Hockey players who play a couple season of what they call Major Junior Hockey League, and then can enroll in NCAA Hockey Colleges. Now you will had a 5th year of eligibility?

On my dad’s college football team in the late 60’s, the average age was around 27 due to guys returning from tours of duty in Vietnam. There have been many instances of athletes returning from different forms of military duty and playing college sports, and we celebrate it, because that’s exactly what college sports is about - giving deserving student-athletes the opportunity to play a sport and represent their school, regardless of age. It’s just like the rest of college (no max age), and just like the rest of life. Once they turn 18, they are all adults.
