2025 Girls’ ODP

If you look at everything, boys in the majority of sports garner the most attention. Look at March Madness. Didn’t even know the Women’s tourney started today. Even on this message board, look at the discussions around the MNT, WNT, HSB, and HSG.

I don’t think here there is any ill harm or bad intentions behind it, but men/boys sports seem to garner more discussion and attention than the women/girls sides, despite the female side being more dominate (Water Polo, Soccer as examples).

Pretty sure boys was late as well. A few in the know leaked the schedule early but roster were only published a week in advance.

If that’s the case I will rescind my comment and just make it a general observation. Don’t want to detract and let the message board devolve into something else and distract from the tourney. Appreciate the clarification.

Curious if anyone has rosters?

There is a link to the the girls rosters on the USA Water Polo page. But in true USA Water Polo fashion, the link opens the spreadsheet of the boys rosters.

Girls roster link now connects to the correct spreadsheet.

Very interesting, a variety of girls (field players few goalies) from different original zones playing for various zones in youth, cadet and development.

Joe,

Most of the time, players in such situation reside in one zone and play club in another zone.

Two Socal girls on the Costal Youth Blue team are from LA County (La Serna HS and Harvard Westlake HS). A Socal player from PAC Youth Blue team goes to high school in Bay Area.

Three 680 Drivers girls play for CEN Youth teams, but these girls reside and go to school in the Central zone afaik. The one from CEN Youth Red team is from Davis HS, and two CEN Youth Blue team players are from Granite Bay HS.

These are just a few examples.

Out of curiosity… do players have a choice as to which zone to tryout for if they live in one zone and play in another or is it strictly tied to either (a) residence, or (b) location of the club? And does anyone know where that is spelled out anywhere on the USAWP website or elsewhere?

Any predictions or comments for this weekend of girls games?

Never one to turn down an opportunity to be dead wrong in public, my predictions for the youth and cadet tournaments follow below.

I don’t know why but many of the top players are not participating in the youth tournament. For example, the PAC zone is missing Lily Palma, Chrissy Flynn, and Natalie Szczerba. The SPA zone is missing Alison Cohen, Kirra Pantaleon, and Sam Hofley. The CST zone is missing Charlotte Raisin, Lucy Haaland-Ford, and Cici DeLuca. With these players missing, I’m predicting a surprise winner in the Youth Tournament:

  1. CEN Red
  2. PAC Red
  3. SPA Red
  4. CST Red

Cadet Tournament:

  1. PAC Red
  2. SPA Red
  3. CST Red
  4. CEN Red

This is great! Any thoughts on Development?

I have the utmost respect for Jeff and his predictions. Regarding Cadet.

#1 I think Spa Red comes in as the favorite. Despite 4 girls playing up in Youth. Addison Ting and Campbell Pence leading the way with two stout centers in Camryn Spruill and Carolyn Daniel. Kennedy Fahey (CD) who transferred from Greenwich to Newport and 4 girls who made DEV NTSC (Mars, Bethel, Green & Arata). This has to be the team to beat.

T#2 I think this is a close one between PAC Red and PSW Red.

First PAC Red; Shelby Killingsworth in goal is fantastic. Emilia Haast, Holly Hovey and Liz Penny are all terrific attackers and Cadet NTSC girls from last year. Montana Topping has been an overlooked lefty IMO. Plus DEV NTSC girls (DeScioli and Fahy)

T#2 PSW Red has arguably the best goalie in the 2027 class along with Shelby in Gianna Adams. Academy player. Cadet NTSC and played on the Dev NT that won Silver in 18’s in the Hawaii Invitational. There are 6 girls who were on the San Diego All-CIF Team (Adams, Grandinetti, Moss, Boone, Wylie and Gia Adams). Grandinetti, Moss and Boone were also on the Dev NT that won Silver in 18’s in the Hawaii Invitational. They were seemingly forgotten last year in the rush to get the Cadet girls to the Pan Am games. Look for this group to create some noise. In addition Gia Adams and Lillian Wylie are really good players. Couple that with a strong contingent of 1st year girls from Del Mar (Bell, Kass, Dresevic & Holman).

I predict the PAC Red v. PSW Red game on Day 2 to be one to watch.

#4 CEN Red They have some really good players like Hazel Beatty and Cecilia Indart. I think playing up Reyna Biedermann and Eden Coughran will be too much of a loss and I see them coming in 4th.

Let the games begin!!

Perhaps, I am not that familiar with San Diego 14u/16u players, but I would be surprised if Cadet PSW Red beats PAC Red. PAC zone is significantly deeper and has a larger number of elite players. Last JOs, in 14s PAC had 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th, 11th, 15th, and 16th finishes. PSW had 12th and 18th. In 16U, PAC had 7th, 8th, 11th, 16th, 20th, and 21st finishes. PSW had 13th and 19th.

Where can we see who the coaches are for each team?

Information on ODP coaches isn’t typically published.

I’m told Cadet SPA RED coached by Brian Heider assistant @ Pomona-Pitzer; CST RED coached by Elyssa Hawkins assistant @ Biola formerly @ Pomona-Pitzer; PSW RED coached by Jacob Pril @ Cathedral Catholic & Del Mar.

I wouldn’t sleep on SPA Youth Red, that young squad is stacked. More than half of the roster has NT experience and are strong candidates to repeat.

SPA Youth is a solid group — they did get third last year though as CST won.

They are definitely a younger group though with a lot of individual studs, but as we saw with Mater Dei during HS season it isn’t always the team with the most physical talent that wins.
