Pretty much a toss-up between UCLA and Stanford, and I’d be shocked if that wasn’t the NCAA final. I would give UCLA the edge – better goalie, stronger sets, more depth. Stanford has an elite shooter in Flynn and she should be able to beat UCLA’s defense but they will also need other players to step up–my bet is it will be Dhalluin (the ASU transfer). Hopefully the woman’s season will be as exciting as the men’s, but I doubt it. Anyone else see any dark horses out there?
I agree with you in that there is a good chance that Stanford and UCLA will end up in the finals this year, but I would give the edge to Stanford. I would not overlook USC either. I am not sure who will be their goalie, but they have some very good field players and an tremendous center. Princeton would be my only dark horse. I could see them upsetting someone to make it to the semis, but I do not see anyone outside the “Big 4” or “Big 3” making it to the finals.
