Did you hear him degrade the women? You contradict yourself a bit, saying “it doesnt work so well” then argue he squeezed a lot out of this group and many others? He also won with the mens team you say he degraded. Every waterpolo coach I had encouraged, challenged, and took me to task and was punitive when we didn’t perform to expectation. Every one would likely have been considered by many as “degrading”. UCLA didn’t win NCAA’s but had another great season this year for the gals. Adam, nor should any top coach be happy with losing, and if that 3rd quarter happened to any coach who knows how to win, it would not have been pretty and degrading would have been gentle. UCLA is a winning program as are USC, Stanford and this year Hawaii and all push thier kids to the limits of their ability mentally and physically.
I heard him say this to his men’s team this past season…but I also witnessed several similar comments to the women’s team.
Correct I did contradict myself because I think these coaching tactics can have all kinds of different results.
Clearly with the men’s team, it worked magic and they had an amazing championship run. With the women, they had good moments this season but then also seemed to lose momentum quickly in today’s game. Also credit to USC for making some incredible shots.

Please let this be the end of the 25/26 year old “professionals” playing in the women’s NCAA. It’s seriously ridiculous for 2018 high school grads being eligible for the 2025 NCAA season. Of course they are going to dominate against 18-19 year olds.

Congratulations to Stanford. I picked them at the beginning of the season and they came within a quarter of having a perfect season. Neushel was the best player that I saw play this year and should win the Cutino Award. I think that Kearns and Ausmus will be the other two finalists.
As others have mentioned, I hope that this is the end of the 24 and 25 year-olds NCAA players. There should be a limit on how many years a player has to complete their career. 7 years is ridiculous. IMHO, a player who played in 2019 should not still be playing in 2025.
CIF imposes an age limit on HS athletes - can’t turn 19 before June 15 and play in the following year. Can’t wait for some beggar-thy-neighbor redshirting family to trip up on that one.
Imposing an age limit for NCAA sports would also help with the internationals issue. “International” gets confounded with “old” when athletes play pro overseas for a few years and show up as 21yo freshmen.
It is interesting to note that 5 of Stanford’s goals were scored by foreign Olympians Dhalluin, who led everyone with three goals, and Browne who added two. I do not remember the last time that Stanford had such contributions from foreigners.
USC was able to keep the three US Olympians Neushul, Roemer and Flynn relatively contained. Neushul and Roemer each had a goal a piece and I believe that both of Flynn’s goals were on penalty shots.
Agree - recent cases of Megens, Fischer, and Neushel being 25 yr old seniors with 3+ years of full-time National team training competing in NCAA’s is a joke. I’m all for age limits at the D1 level, the day you turn 24, you’re ineligible.
Does anyone have rosters for who was dressed at NCAA’s? - would be interesting to see who was left off the playing roster as I think each team can only dress 16-18 athletes

This women’s season seemed like the biggest foregone conclusion before it even started. For all the reasons compiled in earlier messages – Stanford had five Olympians, many of whom were in their mid 20s, etc – did anyone really think that Stanford wouldn’t win the title? Personally, I paid very little attention to the season knowing how heavily weighted Stanford’s roster was compared to the other big schools. They deserve their roses and I’m not taking anything away from their accomplishment but the surprise of the season would have been if they hadn’t won the title.
It won’t happen, and here’s how I know: BYU
Football coaches and athletic directors across the old WAC, Mountain West, and even today in the Big 12 have complained about certain advantages BYU has because they’re often fielding 20 and 21- year-old freshmen, and 25-year-old seniors.
If the NCAA has ignored it this long in football, they sure as hell aren’t changing it for Water Polo.

Should Maud Megens (USC - 22 yr old freshman, spent 5 years with Dutch National team before enrolling at USC) been allowed? Shouldn’t her “clock” have started 12 months after graduating HS?
From my understanding (when i played football in college 30yrs ago) your clock begins the moment you enroll in 12+ units/credits…JUCO, D1, 2 or 3…have things changed now?? I have no clue, but I dont think they have.
I thought I read somewhere on this bulletin board that Junior College now does not count toward your 4 years of eligibility. I could be wrong, though.
I think that may be for football only…but I also havent heard its 100% set in stone yet. Who knows???
The way I understand it, this is a one time deal. Anyone who ran out of eligibility this year and played one season in JUCO gets one more year. NCAA is appealing the ruling so they only did a one year deal pending the court ruling. So it could continue, but rumor is that they will just give everyone 5 years in 5 years.
